Camel Valley “Red” 2013

Overcoming England’s cool climate to create an enjoyable cherry and bramble red.

Pouring a beautiful ruby ink colour from ripe English Rondo grapes, Camel Valley Red is a very seductive looking wine. It does really well too, as long as you serve it lightly chilled. There’s an acidity in the wine because of our climate but this can easily be mellowed in favour for the wine’s fruit by avoiding warming it up.

Mainly showing off cherry on the palette and brambles on the nose, it feels suited to those cool Autumn days.

Bit pricey at £11.49 (Camel Valley Estate, Jan 2015), but English reds are a rare pleasure to enjoy.

Serve with…

…oily fish, like salmon. Excellent with a grilled salmon and rice dish, with a well seasoned leaf salad.
