Cantina Cleto Chiarli Pruno Nero NV

Playful sparkling red brimming with cherry fruits and bubblegum aromas.

This wine, from one of Emilia-Romagna’s oldest wine producers, Chiarli, will surely be the talk of any party. A classic Lambrusco, it’s modest in alcohol but fearless on the fruit front.

While the nose is overwhelmingly of bubblegum that it reminds you of Beaujolais-Nouveau and co, when you get to the palette the wine is altogether more interesting.

Pruno Nero feels like an explosion of “sweet” cherries in the mouth, which round out into a tonic-dry finish. There’s little or no tannin, so to me its very moreish – despite the finish being quite short.

If you’ve not tried a sparkling red before, this is a good place to start.

Serve with…

…pancetta, such as on a pizza topping or just on some savoury biscuits with subtle cheeses.
