Catena Malbec 2012

Spice-stuffed, gutsy Malbec red from one of Argentina’s premier producers.

This is a young, ruby red Malbec that’s reached luxury drinkability already. Full-bodied but not over the top on alcohol (13.5%) or flavour.

Most excitingly is the wine’s smell. Ripe black fruits galore with a bit of perfume complexity that will almost certainly seduce any red wine drinker. A little age in the aroma from oak maturation.

In the mouth this is a powerful, supremely spicy red wine with those soft plum and blackcurrant notes. It’s integrated really well – the oak doesn’t shout at you and the tannins have already rounded out pleasantly.

For its price – around the £10 mark – you can’t go wrong with a wine of this quality. Definitely a must-buy. Would appeal particularly to Syrah lovers looking for a change in style.

Catena Malbec 2012 is made from 100% Malbec grapes from some of the best vineyards in Mendoza, Argentina.

…roast beef and rich red onion gravy. Superb match with cinammon and pepper notes going beautifully.
