Chateau Rives-Blanques Blanquette de Limoux 2012

Super lively sparkling wine – so, so creamy!

The term Fizz! Bang! Pop! probably hasn’t suited a wine I’ve tried quite so well as it suits this Blanquette de Limoux from Chateau Rives-Blanques.

It’s an intensely toasty wine on the nose – and it’s hard to take your eyes off the glass because the bubbles are going mad in the glass. To me this makes the experience similar to the best Cava; biscuity, lively, and yet still fruity and starkly refreshing.

The fruit is mainly melon, “Chenin” (green) apples and grapefruit, and the acidity that comes with them is certainly nearing the high end. Yet the finish is so milky and creamy it’s far from a chewy wine.

Serve with…

…shellfish. The creaminess in this wine feels like it was made to go alongside a fresh shellfish salad.
