Dino Sangiovese di Romagna DOC 2013

Giordano Zinzani’s table wine Dino Sangiovese 2013 does everything right. A typically-good Sangiovese.

This is a really well made wine, if you want something simple and at great value. At under £5 you get a fairly ripe, fruit-forward Sangiovese that’s just about edging away from that watery-body state of some of its competitors.

There’s a long length of dryness that slightly overshadows the wine’s fruity finish, but if you pair the red with food it’s a quick fix. With food the wine is more rounded.

On the nose there’s not a great deal of intensity, but you can recognise that it’s Sangiovese. So this is really a “typical”, although very pleasant, Sangiovese.

£4.99 at Tesco (UK).

Serve with…

…bruschetta, or other tomato-based starter dishes – particularly Italian grub. Would need more character to be fit for a main.

BFW Rating

Overall

A well-made Sangiovese that’s around for pocket-money prices. Fruity, medium length and lots of dryness – good with food.
