Jean-Luc Colombo Les Gravieres Crozes Hermitage 2013
There are probably few Rhone Syrahs with the seductive appeal of Jean-Luc Colombo Les Gravieres Crozes Hermitage 2013.
This is a sexy wine. No doubt there; full of young, teasing blackberry fruit before a burst of dryness and a whole-mouth tickle of spice, it’s so enjoyable you won’t be able to avoid refilling your glass.
The deep, purple-ruby colour shows of this wine’s youth, but the tannins have already mellowed enough for this to be an enjoyable “drink now” Syrah. Might happily be cellared for a year, but you might start losing fruit after that.
All those trademark blackberry notes are paired with very well balanced pepper. Very interesting wine, and at fair value too (£13.99, Waitrose, 75cl, May 2015).

Super spicy, bright young Syrah. Packs of blackberry fruit and a long finish that’s matched with a deep and characterful body.
