La Croix de Chaintres Saumur Champigny 2013

Outstanding summer red wine with delicate red fruit, plenty of acidity and a hell of a lot of charm.

Very dark ruby in colour, this Saumur Champigny from Domaine de la Croix de Chaintres is surprisingly medium bodied. On the nose are delightful aromas of sweet strawberry and enticingly rich cherry scents.

The main body is a gently warming mixture of herbs, cinnamon, plum and cherry – kept balanced rather than rich, providing a very smooth texture and a dry length, making it a brilliant match with food.

The best thing is the wine’s crisp raspberry finish, which makes the wine supremely drinkable.

With lots of fruit flavour and a beautifully balanced body, this is definitely a 5-star summer wine.

Enjoy at room temperature, but advised to let it air for a few minutes; also delicious when served lightly chilled, living up to Saumur’s excellent reputation for producing chilled, accentuated reds.

…savoury biscuits and cheese, light salads, poultry or fish. Versatile and fruity red that is a delightful food-matcher.
