Triade Negroamaro/Primitivo 2012

One of the best value pleasure-giving red wines you can buy right now – especially with food.

Food’s best friend, Italy, has done wonders with the great-value Triade (Only £6.69, Waitrose, Feb 2015 – usually £8.99).

Award-winning medium body red, this wine has aromas of liquorice and blackberries on the nose, plus coffee complexity.

Some of the coffee is also reminiscent in the palette, a bit like a Pinotage, that makes it versatile with fuller foods like beef or steak. However, mostly you have black fruits and spice.

There’s some jamminess from the Primitivo, but local varieties added to the wine turn this into pleasant, chocolate-like notes. Pair these with the wine’s medium, inoffensive body and this is an incredibly versatile, immensely yummy red wine.

Good finish for a wine of its value.

Serve with…

…lasagne. It’s a fine Italian pasta match, but lasagne works the best by far. Also goes brilliantly with white meat, cheese and even oily fish. When pairing with red meat dishes, just add a little salt if the Triade Primitivo is a little bitter!
